Dalynnja de Klerk is a Dutch fashion designer and businesswoman. The founder of Dalynnja Le Clerq Couture excels at creating accurate vintage-inspired pieces from her favorite decades in fashion—the 1930s, 40s and 50s—but not just!
Miss de Klerk in her childhood was fascinated by the princess dresses shown in Disney movies and was always found drawing sketches inspired by them.
When Dalynnja’s mother, Esther, discovered her daughter’s talent, she took Dalynnja to painting classes, to progress her skills furthermore.
In her pre-teenage years, Dalynnja found her true passion—fashion.
Luckily, her grandmother used to be a seamstress, so Dalynnja was eligible with sewing machines early on. As soon as she got a handle on sewing, she started making her own clothes. With determination to be as good as possible at it, she followed multiple fashion courses, which allowed her to continue progressing her sewing skills.
During studies at an internship—after years of experimenting with different methods and designs, and learning more about the history of fashion—Dalynnja found the style that spoke the most to her heart. She fell in love with “The New Look”—the silhouette first introduced by Christian Dior in 1947.
She was drawn to handmade clothing, all inspired by the fashion icons and the classic, timeless silhouettes of the decades from the 1930s to 1950s.
Each garment is made with vintage sewing and construction techniques, era-accurate materials and details. Fair and lovingly made, custom tailored fashion pieces. One of her main goals was always to stay away from mass production and monotony. Slow fashion is something she holds very close to her heart.
Clothes that are made by Miss de Klerk herself are sold in limited editions, so that every design remains special and unique. If an item is sold out, Dalynnja does not intend to bring it back in the same style it was before. For example; the design may come back but made from different colours or prints.
Her company, Dalynnja Le Clerq Couture, specializes in made to order pieces of fashion, meaning that the garment is only made after you have ordered it. This way, no fabric and material are wasted, staying true to earth consciousness.
As of today she works full time on Dalynnja Le Clerq Couture. Dalynnja de Klerk is a classic one woman business. She personally cares about every aspect of her brand—from designing the garments and searching for the right fabrics and materials, to the production of the clothing and handling all customer service aspects.
